Christmas is here once more and, other than some new Ben Sherman garms, we know one thing you’ll all have on your list for santa: some new Christmas vinyl.

Thankfully, 2017 has been a great year for essential vinyl releases, with some of music’s biggest names returning to the scene with rich, varied records.

The Oasis mainman has been everywhere this year, with his forthright ‘you know what I mean?’ interview style gaining him a fair few column inches as the year was wore on. Thankfully, Liam wasn’t all talk, and his new solo album As You Were features some of the best songs the engaging frontman has released in living memory.

70s-obsessed crooner Father John Misty returned with album number three this year to rave reviews across the globe. The easy listening vibe of frontman Joshua Tillman’s latest collection means it’s the perfect soundtrack to a lazy, hazy Boxing Day, making Pure Comedy one of the must have Christmas vinyls.

London’s Wolf Alice have been on the scene for a few years, but the Ellie Roswell fronted band really came to the fore this year with the release of third album Visions of a Life. This spiky punk and grunge-tinged record is an angry reaction to the state of the world in 2017, and should be right at the top of your Christmas vinyl list.

Mercury-nominated Loyle Carner has been one of the faces of UK hip hop this year, with his London drawl on tracks such as ‘No CD’ and ‘Ain’t Nothing Changed’ winning plenty of plaudits for the young man’s debut album.

Archy Marshall has quietly gone about his business, recording under a variety of different guises since his debut record as King Krule. The Ooz sees his return to this moniker, with Marshall’s gravelly, smoked two boxes of fags tones constantly surprising for a man not long old enough to drink. A breakup album with a difference.

Damon Albarn brought together a unique group of artists once more for the nation’s favourite cartoon band’s essential vinyl release. Vocalists as diverse as Vince Staples and Grace Jones appear to help the band deliver a concept album based around an evening where everything you thought you knew was turned upside down.
